The idea is to add a new parameter like “max spread” which you could change depending your broker... If spread is higher than the value of the parameter then EA doesn’t open new trades. It’s a parameter that many EA have and it’s useful to avoid some scenarios as Rocky16 explained... :)

The only things that could have prevented this: 1- If you had open trades opposite the trend then the only thing that could have saved you is sufficient account balance so the DD wouldn't have killed your account (in lack of a parameter like equity stop). 2- With no big open trades opposite...

Totally agree, but in some scenarios it's really useful to have different options as parameters... and Mr. Tanaka EAs normally have those parameters, just asking how they work to fully understand their behaviour
